I have been reading a book just lately on the L1A1 and apparently the very early 1A1 Indian rifles did have a brass plate that was adapted from the SMLE. The Indians also had a mismatch of a rifle that was both L1A1 parts and FN/FAL. Also, it was the only rifle that was able to take both imperial and metric magazines. Hope you find this as interesting as I did.

All inch pattern rifles will take metric mags (but not vice versa, as the locking lug is wider on inch pattern)

Unfortunately we are suffering from a European wide shortage of parts and our supplier is currently saying they are about 6 weeks behind schedule. I am sure that comes as no surprise to some but whilst we are leaning on them as hard as we can we are unable to force them to guarantee their delivery times. I do hope that this batch will be ready sooner but I think it only prudent to pass on the news of the delay as soon as practical to do so. If anyone has any specific queries then please don't hesitate to get in touch and I'll do whatever I cam to alleviate the issue. If that's a refund of deposit (despite the fact that I've already paid for the parts) then I'm more than happy to do that. Im sure they'll be here soon but sadly it is not as soon as i would have liked. Gavin

Gavin, thanks for posting this here.

i am sure it is appreciated by those (like me) who have already paid a deposit and are waiting.

Naturtally there will be frustration and disappointment but I very much appreciated being able to discuss this with you in a candid fashion and your offer of a refund.

As per our conversation late last night, I hope that your supplier issues can be resolved. Having a substantial down payment out and no clear timescale for a delivery is never a comfortable position to be in - certainly not for the customer and I am sure, not for you as a dealer.

Given the ompunt of time and money you have invested in this very interesting project I sincerely hope that you are able to resolve these issues sooner rather than later and that the project does not end up coming off the rails.

    Regards

    Andy

    Hi Andy

Hope you haven't been put off going for one. You just have to be patient like we in the first batch were, and we didn't even know if the project was possible or not, as it happens it's been well worth the wait.
I'm currently waiting for a butt removal tool(funny how you can get L1A1 parts and tools there but not here) and a scope mount from the States. I have an extra long wood butt in new condition and am going to try it, though if the recoil is too severe I may go back to a long (also from the States) plastic butt.
The great thing about this rifle is there are so many variations to play with.

I'm hanging in there....we're still a long way from some of the timescales I've endured (AI AW and GAP M40A1 clone, both 18 months, spring to mind)!

I refer you back to my post #130 on page 13 - mine was seven months

That's no criticism of Gavin, setting the project up and getting the first ones out will always take much longer, at least now the procedure is established and the relative hard work is done.

Hang in there, you'll love it when it arrives

Does anyone want the drawings or a simple sketch of the butt removal tool? I'd make a dozen or so but there'll never be a great demand for them, especially in the UKicon. Maybe they're available from the US. Do you have any Brian at BDLicon?
