Modern ammo
Is it safe for me to use modern 30-06 rounds in my 1943 ? I have been using Federal American Eagle and it hasn't blown up yet. I guess it would have made more sense to actually ask this question before shooting the stuff. I know you shouldn't use the new stuff in Garands. Thanks.

If you have to ask if SAAMI spec ammo's safe to shoot, then we have a problem. Military rifles are and always were notoriously robust.

Almost any modern commercial made '06 ammo is safe in a M1903. The reason not to use it in am M1 is gas port pressures, not chamber pressures. High gas port pressures will break parts and bend op rods. The M1903 has no gas port issues. There may be some foreign stuff you would want to avoid due to them not using SAMMI specs.

Mr. Kurtz: Yes your rifle is safe to shoot with modern Saami spec ammo. I am a little confused though over what the problem would be if you didn't know that Saami spec. ammo was safe to shoot in your rifle as one person replied to you. I always go by the rule it is better to be safe and ask than not ask and have a catastrophic situation develop.

As others stated, it should be okay to shoot almost any commercial ammo in your rifle...assuming there is nothing wrong with it. If headspace is okay, fire away!
I speculate that you may be asking this question because of the problems with improper heat-treating on the 1903 rifle causing brittle receivers. This is a whole other can of worms, but...if your rifle was made in 1943 it would not be affected by this.
