A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Hello Folks my name is michael.786 and I have just started a Britishicon military rifle collection. I have a Lee Enfield SMLE Mark 111 dated 1915 with a magazine cut off. This rifle has remarkably good woodwork for its age with hardly any damage on the woodwork. The Parkerised finish is also intact. There are no regimental markings on it but it has a large letter U stamped on the receiver. It has all the usual Enfield and Crown stamps on it. It also has BNP stamped on the cocking lever knob. I think the rifle was sent to South Africa after manufacture. The large U apparently denotes Union of South Africa.

It looks like it was returned to the UK and was sent to The Birmingham Proof House for deactivation. It has been marked DP for drill purpose.
Well thats me for the time being. I would just loke to say that reading the various threads has been invaluable to me and it is the collective knowledge, wisdom an opinions which make thius such a great site. I would love to hear any comments about my no doubt faulty assessment of my SMLE's history and I am ready to start on the learning curve!

Hello and good day to you all on this vastly knowledgeable and interesting forum. I am living in Ontario (province) and am interested in, obviously, old military kit.

    Hello from a New comer

Have been reading various posts for some time now and have decided to bite the bullet and join in. Hopefully I will have some info of use to others. Once I can get some descent pics of my No4 I'll add them in. Enoyed the article by Terry Lee on the sniper, I have one but it has some differnces than what was mentioned so will have to get some more research done. I am attempting to get the kit together that a Canadianicon sniper would have carried. Thanks once again.

    Talking Hi all

Well have been a member for awhile now but haven't introduced my self.
I am more of a shooter than collector. I have a 1898 L.E.C carbine cut wood
a Remington R.B and will be looking for a #5 carbine and may be a martini Henry or a Snider
