Hi All,
Because of the cast iron reciever on this special typ 99, is it safe to shoot?

They could be safe or they might not be. Why take the chance. These guns are fairly rare. I have one but I would never shoot it. There are many more common Japanese guns to shoot without taking the chance. Detroit-1

Like Detroit, I think they would be safe to shoot but..... I have a nice one but would not shoot it, cause all the screws might jump out. The bolt locks into the barrel and that would stay together but I don't know about the rest of the rifle.

Naval Special 99
Thanks for your replies.
I finally got my Navy type 99. I did some trading for it. It's an early model with a solid wood stock and long handguard. It also has a matching bolt and a clean bore.
With your advice I won't be shooting it. It will be a nice add on in my collection.
Thanks from NorthWales Fred
