Odd military style Parker Hale Cleaning Kit for No. 1,4 and 5 rifles pictured

I found this as new cleaning kit moving thrings around in the basement. It appears to be 1960's vintage. The brown thing is a folded cardboard shipping spacer. One of these days I will post a montage of military cleaning kits if there is any interest.

Nice kit, never seen one before. Be careful if you are tempted to use the rod. I bought one for my range box, it's made of ally and my one buckled the first time I tried to push some 4B2 down the .303 spout.

To be honest and frank Paul, I don't really think that this would survive for more than, say, 4 minutes or, say 2 mts on a good day in the hands of a soldier. Best he sticks with a pullthrough and some 4x2. Not that he'd break anything - except that an alloy cleaning rod would last even less but by the end of a weeks exercise, you might get the holdall back but as for the rest of the bits and pieces.................

That's only my very limited experience of the Bren and GPMG cleaning kit rolls.................

i will back you up Peter, as a mag 58 gunner for awhile it was always a pain to try and keep the kit together, After the the wash up the CQMS would have a big handfull of L&D's to fill out, member to pay, that was even after one came out of my pack when I was dangling from some cords and a bit of silk a thousand feet up in the air or so, I had no control over it spiralling into the deck but the cranky old bastard didn't see it that way.

It looks like something Parker Hale has put together for a one-off military order, as it is just an assembly of commercial items. I assume that its Canadian? Would it be part of the original package put together for the Rangers?

I havnt seen a tin of youngs 303 gun oil for years, the smell brings back memories of the cadet armoury with all the slr's in there. oh the memories.

Well the style of stencilling and the use of "303 CAL" looks North American - its not British, and its hard to think of any other relatively recent user of .303 Enfield Rifles.

I think it's civilian and was never a military item of any kind. Like Peter implies, it has no durability at all.
