I think that a burning book in remembrance is a futile gesture , regardless of how upset they get , now , would burning 3000 books every year make any difference ? I guess probably not . Forgiveness and appeasement is seen by them as weakness . Revenge can be sweet , but it does tend to stoke the fire a bit , and the problem doesn't go away . Superior strength and unwavering resolution are the only things that may get them to stop and think . It would help if we could find some way of not filling their pockets with petro-dollars . My thoughts are for all the broken families left behind .

I have loved 'history' for as long as I have lived; I'd have become a professor of history but for the need to feed my family. I cannot understand how anyone is not interested in the what, when, where and why of the human race. Perhaps instant-communication with its seconds-ago legacy is now "history"? Where's the personal investment in that? I enjoy my computer, professionally and personally but hard-bound printed history texts own my soul.

Al Qaeda and the Taliban knew that NATO and the US would retaliate , so they prepared in advance.
The national hero of most of Afghanistan , Ahmad Shah Massuod , was assassinated on 9 /9/2001 by two foreign al-Qaeda operatives.

    http://www.time.com/time/asia/2006/h...b_massoud.html

The murder did serious and long lasting damage to Nato and US efforts in the region.

Massoud's letter to the people of America .
    Date: 1998
Afghanistan Online: Masood's Letter To The American People

Massoud had reason to be concerned about the actions some Pakistani officials in 1998.
Over the last two years a new Pakistani administration has been elected . Paki military and law enforcement have been active in the tribal areas, and ( according to The Army Times ) US units have been working with the Pakistani Frontier Corps for over one year.

Post Fast Forward One (1 ) Year.

    Recent news article:

Pakistani Gunmen Kill 5 in School Van; 16 hurt - The Denver Post

The longer , closer to original version of the story by Riaz Khan , Associated Press Writer has additional details:
" Taliban gunmen attacked a school van ... in NW Pakistan...in an assualt they said was....to punish local tribesmen for resisting."

"...tribal leaders ... have formed militias to stop [ invader] infiltration... They get .. fininancial & logistical help, and have killed or captured many [ invaders ]]over the last 18 months."

A quick tally from the longer version of the article:
    Killed :5 kids 1 adult .
    Wounded:14 kids 2 adults .
In at least two (2) incidents.
" This is to teach them a lesson and we will continue to carry out our attacks ... no matter if it is a school or a school bus." said a taliban spokesman.

    So...
After that mess is over & done with...
Any body want to buy a Paki militia AK47 that has this stamp on the welded reciever:

"Converted to SA by Uncle Pilgrim's Good Guy Guns , LLC "

Small & discrete , or course. And a chain of custody tag from the individual soldier or law enforcement officer through the welding shop ?
Paper trail and original reciever , rebuilt/FTR'ed as needed. Sounds like some serious value added for the local economy.
