Move back to Nor-Cal about complete: found Black Rifle friendly range
Well, we finally left Mississippi to return to California. Stuff is in a truck headed here, and the wife and I have arrived. We will spend about two weeks visiting all the kids and traveling, then settle in in the Grass Valley/Auburn/Colfax area. I know Kalifornistan sucks gun law-wise, but my kids and grand kids are all here, so I deal with it. My USGI Inland Carbine is good to go, a "Hammerhead" grip on the GAU-5P, and Kydex paddle on my Saiga AK restored to its glory let me use my pre-ban high caps. I even found a range (Lincoln Rifle Club) outside of Sacramento that is inexpensive and VERY black rifle friendly. (VERY scarce in California) Three gun matches, CMP and Carbine matches, IDPA, defensive rifle classes, and Appleseed, if I remember correctly.

Nice country up in the foothills. I like Grass Valley/Nevada City a lot. I used to go to a great restaurant there "Salilas"? When you look down into the basin, you see that layer of crap that hangs over Sacto and you are glad you are where you are. Any place with neighbors like, Nevada City and Rough and Ready is just wonderful. My only gun range here is in Marin County, some of the most expensive land on the planet. But way out by Tomales where there are just dairy ranches. Most people think that California is just like LA all over, it is absolutely not. The whole top third of the state, millions of acres is just pristine wilderness, never logged much, wonderful rivers. Then in the middle it is just wilderness . People around the bay area, and LA basin, and in the central valley. There is more standing timber in Calif than in the rest of the country combined. We have 300' tall redwoods around my area. Too bad that it is full of rich liberal Asshats.
I started my law enforcement career after I got of the Army in 1977 as a Nevada County (Grass Valley) deputy. My sister lived in Grass Valley, and my brother and parents lived in Colfax. I moved away in 1979, returned for a bit 1988 to 1992, then I returned in 2000 after I retired from Tuolumne County. I love the area. From 2000 to 2007, we had 20 acres (surrounded by 1,000 acres of BLM land, and did a lot with our horses in the Sierras, including endurance, trail and team penning. In 2007, we moved back to the midwest and south, chasing kids and grandkids. Now they have all returned to the West coast for good. On my Grass valley property, I had bulldozed my own 100 yard range, so I was good. Now I will need to use Lincoln, or USFS land. I did get told of the Calif Dept. of Fish and Game range in Smartville, between Grass Valley and Beale AFB. I had forgotten about that. I is free and does not have "no steel cased ammo" restrictions, either.
Now you guys are making California not sound so terrible. I've always pictured it all looking like what I've seen of LA in movies and TV with traffic jams ten lanes wide for miles and miles and smog hanging heavily in the air - Gangs running the entire state beyond police control and carjackings on every other corner. Not even going into the picture I have of San Fransisco and Hollywood.
Of course the nearest I've ever been to CA is Midland, TX!
Actually, California is OK mostly: East of LA/San Diego metro areas, North of the Grapevine and east of Tehachapi, Sacramento area. Forget: LA, SF, East Bay, Fresno, and Modesto. That still leaves 4/5th of the state.

Watch out there Bub. I live in the east bay out by the delta.
Google or Youtube,
Flint Slums and try Detroit Slums while your at it.
Seen a video a while back with a guy from Ohio who decided to take the day and drive around the slums of Detroit and film what he'd seen. 5 minutes in and his windshield was shot out. Called 911 and never did have police come. Can't find that one now.
I follow this reporter. His camera man was shot 2 years ago. Here's his take on Flint......
