larger peep sight
Photo shows a very early unmarked peep sight and a number 8 peep, the #8 is nice or you can make one

Does the #8 ever merge with the triangle?
I have a set of #10 from Bill Bentz. Have never used them. Should I try them out?

another rifle close to your s/n
My s/n 825055 with an SA 3-18 came with a TENN marked stock, my friend saw it at a small gun show in FLA and bought it for me. I think this rifle came from the CMP ? a few years ago, nice bore too.
The nice feature about the USMC sight is that if the leaf is flat, the notch is set for 200 yards,
alot depends on what you are use to in the 1903 rear sight

Pete, I have the a set of the USMC sites (F/R) on my 03 with the USMC hood and they are easier too shoot ie less eye strain.

Sweet rifle, Pete. IIRC, not the first "shooter" you've cobbled together - all done beautifully.

Pete,
Not sure what you mean by "merge with the triangle". If do you mean drilling one out would put the peep closer to it, not by much. The center would be the same, only a larger aperature. I have a handfull of drift slides that were originally made at .050" aperature and marked as such (5). That mark was X'ed out and they were re-stamped with an 8 when the gummit re-drilled them to .080".
In my opinion, from the ones I have seen, the Bentz "Marine" sights would be much easier to see. Larger aperarure with no "triangle" distractions and a taller, wider front sight.
HTH,
Emri

I just swapped them out-I'll report back. I had the USMC's on a Remington that never got shot. I put them on the SA. PD
