A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I'll guess an American rifle, and M1icon Garand or an M1 Carbine. Probably the latter.

Standard issue weapons were No.4, No.5, Sten Mark V, M1icon carbine and Browning A5 automatic shotgun (which incidently had the highest kill ratio on patrols).

In 1951 some EM2 rifles (Rifle 7mm No.9) were issued for troop trials and similarly in the period in question some XL8E1 (Trial 7.62mm SLR) were also isued for tropical trials.

    Regards
    TonyE

We have 1 real close guess (Anzac15 with the L1A1) & 1 spot on, well done TonyE , Dads rifle was (in his words) the FN FAL.

Been about 30 years since i looked though dads photo album from that time, i cant recall any photos of him being armed with anything other than a trombone, there is a photo of a dead Mau Mau with a No4 but cant remember if there are any armed soldiers in it but will try & see what i can find.
