Accumounts Enfield mount - jamming bolt
Good evening everybody,
I am just wondering if I amd missing something or being really stupid.
I have just put an Accumounts (no smith) mount on a 1942 Savage MkI* but I can't get the bolt to open. I can't figure out how the mechanism is being 'jammed'.
Anybody know if I've put the mount on wrongly OR simply if these mounts just don't go on the MkI*? Is the MkI* any structurally different to the British No.4s?
Thanks for any help,
Steve

The Accumounts version which I have mounts using the rear sight pivot holes and the charger bridge. Neither of these points should bind on the bolt, so I can see why you are puzzled.
If the mount was one which uses either the ejector screw hole, or the safety spring screw, these might perhaps bind the bolt up if the screws were too long.
Your rifle bolt hasn't dropped into the half-cock notch has it? That will certainly stop you opening the bolt!

try undoing the ejector screw, see what happens

I assume you have removed the mount and found the bolt opens fine and have therefor deduced it is the mount and not somthing unrelated?

If you have a screw going through the rear sight pivot holes you can cramp the action up tight enough to bind the bolt.
It's not necessary to have it tight. It won't shoot loose.

Thanks fellas, I've sorted it now. I loosened off one of the alllen screws that holds the back end in place through the rear sight holes. I still can't work it out - could the tension on that screw be enough to narrow the bolt channel? I'm now concerned that the whole thing wont hold zero because the screw is not tight.

Ah OK thanks MkVII, that confirms it.

Obviously occurs to me now that the mount wont allow bolt removal for cleaning the barrel because of the wedge.

I had the same binding problem with a similar mount. The solution was thin shim washers between the mount and the backsight attach points.

A wise plan. Thanks Steve.
