BSA Lee-Enfield removable .22 conversion kit
I've just obtained a Remington P.14 with a .22 conversion kit which is "B.S.A." over "LEE-ENFIELD" over "22 LONG" marked.
Since this was the first time I've seen such a kit I was wondering whether someone here also has one of those or knows more about them? Even Terence of rifleman.org.uk wasn't able to tell me much on those, so I'd be looking forward whether someone here could help me?
Were these kits also for other rifles than the P.14? If yes, let me know for which rifle and any additional information you have or know. Would be interested to find out to which period those date, probably someone can help me.
For the moment these are the only pictures I have, will add more when I have the rifle in hand.

PS: I have thought about putting this thread into the P.13/P.14/M1917 section, but since I wasn't specifically asking for the P.14 variant of this conversion kit (and believing that anyone who would have an identical item would also read here in the Enfield board) I decided to use this forum.

How do these .22 conversions work as far as the barrel goes? Is there a sleeve or does the round just fly down the .303 barrel? I'm clueless when these pop up...

Very interesting kit Promo, looks similar to the German K98 kit, where as the whole kit is a self contained unit,

It looks to be adjustable in lengh (see the holes), at least that is similar as with the Pedersen Device. Will find out when I have it. It's single shot and described as "easily removeable", I believe it might only be hold in place by the ejector spring (which also locks the bolt in place on the P.14 rifle).
So noone of you has seen such an item?

P14 with BSA Lee-Enfield removable .22 conversion kit
Hello Promo,
I have exactly the same B.S.A. .22LR conversion kit in my collection for some years now. Yours is the second one I have ever seen!
The "B.S.A. Lee Enfield .22 Long" markings are hand engraved, the serialnumbers are also punched by hand, so we can be relatively sure that the production was very limited. My kit also has a three digit serialnumber (lower than yours), so untill we find another one we can only guess that yours has the highest serialnumber and only 160 are made.
All the proofmarks are Belgian. The proofmarks and the *c inspectorsmark on the kit indicate it was made between 1924 and 1948 or 1959 and 1968.
Now the real mystery starts... Did B.S.A. make this kit? There are no British proofmarks, so we can't be sure. Did B.S.A. outsorce a small order or prototype batch to a Belgian gunsmith? Possible, but we can't be sure. Who ordered these kits? Are they made for the commercial or military market? We can only guess...
I hope someone can help. All information will be greatly apreciated!
Regards,

Wow, this was a result which I've been looking for!
Since you didn't mention it: is your kit also for the P.14 rifle? And did you receive it with a rifle or only the kit itself? How does your kit lock in the rifle?

Hello,
yes it will only fit in a P14, not in an other Enfield. Maybe it will fit in a P17 but I don't have one.
It is completely IDENTICAL to your kit, except the serialnumber. It locks exactly like the original bolt would, with the locking luggs in the chamber. When placed correctly I can use the safety of the P14 rifle.
