Regarding the colour... All I can say is that while I wasn't in Aden, I actually saw the vehicles with my own eyes! In fact the tanks and Saladins (also later used as hard targets) that came back from there were a dark sandy colour.

Thanks all for your input.
The colour actually is a sort of battleship grey, the lighting altered it in the picture. Sorry about that.
It seems the surplus store where it was bought decided to dedicate their floor and storage space to tacticool and airsoft gear; so a lot of the genuine surplus was "stored" outdoors .
The paint is flaking off as soon as I handle the case and some of the joints are splitting slightly.
What strikes me as strange is that there is really no identifiying mark or number anywhere on the case, apart from the scorpions and triangles . I have yet to see another military item so devoid of identification.

Is it a Cdn chest or a British made chest? Can you show more photos of the complete chest?
I have seen that marking somewhere before, but I can't place it right now.

What does it say on the label showing in photo 3. That might give those interested a bit of a clue

Looks to me like it's a transit chest for the Canadian C No.7 .22 rifle.

Yep, it's definitely a C No.7Mk.1 transit chest.

Those look like square drive (Robertson) screws, Canadian then, or built in NZ by a boatbuilder in the last 20 years who seem to be the only people have cottoned on to the superior woods screw, after over a century after its invention. Yes OT.
