M1 Front Sight
I have this Front Sight that came into question and I couldn't find anything in the Books or the Internet and this or other Forums about finding out who manufactured this Sight. I have a Niedner Front sight with the N marked on it, but doesn't look like this one. This Sight shows a N, but this Signt looks like it was cut off on the right side of the letter. There is also 2 channels outside of the letter. Would anyone have information on this. Thanks
Frank

It's a Niedner sight. I saw those grooves on many of the Italian CMP returns. See Carbine Club newsletter #341, addendum "CMP Carbine Update", page 2for another picture.

Its not a modification, just a manufacturing variance like the so called "thumbnail" Winchester (Lyman) front sights.
