Gew 88 question
Hello,
I was looking through the gew 88 rifles for sale and saw this one: Turkish Gew 88 : Antique Guns at GunBroker.com
I was just curious since the listing says its in 7mm and not 8mm mauser. I was just wondering if this was right and if so, who converted it into 7mm (or if anyone owns one, if there worth getting).

I doubt it is correct. Original caliber would have been 8mm. Even if Turkey rebarreled it I doubt they would put a 7mm barrel on it as they were converting all their old firearms to 8mm. Turkey did use 7mm prior to WWI so it isn't out of the realm of possibility, just unlikely.
As for buying this particular rifle, if I wanted a GEW88, I would pass. This is heavily modified and is just an old rebarreled rifle with little military history now.
There are plenty of Turk GEW88's that have not been rebarreled, that have the original barrel and shroud, etc that sell for the price this guy is starting this one at.

I wasn't gonna buy, it was just a curious thought exercise.
