Not quite correct. It is possible to have a legal deact that hasn't been Proof House certified. A deactivated weapon is one that has been "rendered incapable of discharging any shot, bullet or other weapon and has consequently ceased to be a firearm within the meaning of the Act". A deact that has been Proof House certified benefits from an automatic presumption that it is legal. But that doesn't preclude the possibility that a non-certified one meets the "rendered incapable..." etc. criteria and is also legal. BUT; you run the risk of having to establish this in court

Oooooooooooh Lester, post 50, you are stating things that are incorrect. When one quotes the law, you can be nearly right, but still hopelessly and in this case, dangerously wrong.
Put simply, as detailed to me by my sister, if a 'non firearm' has been certified so via the proof house, then the onus of proof that it IS a firearm rests with the prosecuting authorities.
If an alleged non firearm has not been marked AND/OR certified by the proof house, then the onus of proof regarding its status rests with the POSSESSOR and NOT the owner
The subsequent absence of a certificate or mark has no bearing whatsoever on its status in much the same way that if you've lost the log book or MoT for your car............ It's STILL MoT'd!

Dear Gents, I DID NOT quote the law but the working practice for importation of D/A guns. There is NO Tariff classification number for a D/A firearm. Thus it must be declared as live. The Proof House D/A cert will evidence it is suitably deactivated. That then gives you a pointer to the licence required, prohibition or no need for a licence if it is a D/A.
You will get the gun stopped and possibly seized if paperwork is not in order. Procecution is not automatic, depends on the potential offence.
By posting in #50. I was hoping and intending to avoid the genuine collectors having their precious guns taken away from them through insufficient deactivation work.
I have no intention of telling grandmothers to suck eggs and willingly submit to people who have a greater knowledge than me on certain subjects.
This is the place to discuss our hobbies and interests and it is a very good thing these matters are discussed.
Kind regards, Lester

I think I'd be prepared to give a nice cooooool crate of beer to the first person who remanufactured a new-build lightened Mk3 Bren receiver body. Make that TWO crates to the bloke who makes an early double dovetail Mk1.
There's an offer you can't refuse! Get milling chaps..................
Now that the cat is out of bag on another site, I can let every one here know that I now have the blueprints for the MKIII recevier. I'm not sure how to post attachments here, but if you email me at MarkDevCanada@yahoo.com I'll email you a copy. Please note these are for non commercial use only.
By the way I'm still looking for blueprints for all the other parts including the MKI & MkII receivers.
Peter, I know its not a finished semi-bren receiver so no cooooool crate of beer yet, but blueprint are the first step, so would that count for "a coool beer ?

Ah, the offer is still on, but it says 'remanufactures' a new lightweight Mk3 body. Phone me when you've got the new body up and running Mark and we can sit down to a few beers
To be honest, I think that it'd be easier to just convert a Canadian screw-in gas cylinder type Mk2 than re-make a Mk3. There's no shortage of Mk1 and 2 bodies in the world, certainly in the UK

How about this guys,
I'm in the process of making a BB Bren, powered by an air compressor. I have all the parts planed out, but I am looking for a blueprint for the receiver. I don't have a de-mil receiver to play with. But I do have a BB insert for the barrel.
Any one have a set of prints I can BBoS?
