Any info out there or in the records of Long Branch bodies converted to L42? Any pictures?

Roughly 16 but maybe up to 20, spread out over the entire 10 year conversion program!

One lives with me. Markings are faint as I recall.

It was more available that I remember and I was able to take some photographs of my Long Branch L42A1. As remembered the only clue is the 90L serial number as the Long Branch markings were removed before the new markings were added. Scope and mount are reproduction replicas.

The spec stated that the '......... original desigation markings were to be linished clear as indicative of its new status......' or words to that effect. You can see the flapper wheel effect on L39's photo above

That's great info. Was bolt replaced as well? See Brit parts on the couple posted. Great if viewers could get a list of serial numbers from the build data. Also of interest would be the scopes that were put on the LB conversions. Were the REL's updated or replaced with Brit's.

I saw several with REL's fitted including UK made ones with REL scopes. It's just how they went through life between the war and the early 70's conversions I suppose. As I said a zillion times before and will say a zillion times before the end of the year. In the Armourers shops that I frequented, we never looked for distinctive makers, believe me. At the end of the conversion run, No4T's suitable for conversion were very thin on the ground, as were suitable Mk3 telescopes and that's why a standby plan for Mk2's and 2/1's to L1A2s was tried and codefied into the system
If a rifle needed a new bolt to give it a new lease of life, it got one in much the same way that it got a new anything else
