Collie range today 02/02/2017
Mate and I went up for a shoot today I only took mu APRS 308 and my Parker Hale 22/250 my friend took his 6mm BR, 7mm Rem Mag and his 460 Weatherby Mag.
My 22/250 has the nik of "The Black Hole" for good reason it is a money pit for oh so little gain, I have been fighting to get this thing to shoot and it has had me perplexed as it has a great barrel on it a Bartlein 1/12 TR but mediocre glass.
However I had set my COAL at 2.350" which is the standard for 55gn Blitz Kings so I thought hang on I will check the lede on this thing so out with the Hornady case and gauge set it up and what a shock I got.
The measurement I got from the Hornady gauge put the ogive at 2.153" which means the pills were jumping .197 thou bit like jumping over the Grand Canyon!
So I set 2 batches of 20 rounds one at a 30 thou = 2.223" and a batch at 20thou = 2.133"
The 20's seem to hold the edge but it was still a bit rugged at 175M even though I can hit the 5" gong at 214M it is still not quite there so will get back with better results shortly I have a few pics of her for Gil as I know he likes P H's the barrel is 28" Varmint profile.
The green target with the single hit that took the red spotter out was a little test I devised for my APRS I fired 1 round from a clean cold barrel dialed up from a 100M zero from my ballistic card for this gun at the 214M 5" gong spin drift was .1 L MOA, a center hit 1/4" > Rt was obtained
Then I dialed in for the second round at the 175M target and took the red spotter off not bad from a relatively unfouled cold barrel the inner 10 ring circle is 26mm in dia I put a bigger red patch in the center and the shot removed it. I know I go on a bit about my APRS but it is very nice to know it will hit on the first round from an unfouled cold barrel providing I do my bit with the other exterior ballistics. 42gns AR 2206h 168gn A Max 20 thou jump Lap case Fed 210M.
I have posted a couple of pics of my friends 460WM, it has a custom hand made stock with a dead mule in it he has just fitted a MARCH 1- 10 x 24 with the LTM-4 reticule.
He had 13 rounds from the bench & I fired 2 from the bench which is plenty for me at a 108 Ft/Lb of free recoil from that sucker with 500gn Woodleighs.
From a 100M zero holding on the first hash mark for hold over he connected on the 214M gong 2nd round so he went away happy as.
I also pictured the 460WM compared round to a 22/250 from my rifle to give those that have never seen a 460WM round get an idea of the damn thing........

I'll bet if you check the numbers, you'll find the felt recoil and the muzzle energy are about the same. Something like Teddy Roosevelt's lion gun...
