If anyone is still wondering about the electrolysis method, I'm due to start a Lucas rear lamp that requires some restoration, its an original that would of been fitted to my Matchless, its an ideal candidate for electrolysis, I'm doing a step by step for the HMVF but can post here if anyone wants to see it. (probably post on the Vehicle part of the forum)

I wouldn't use salt for electrolysis. One of the bye-products of the reaction is ferric chloride, a very nasty and highly toxic compound.
