Nice honest looking officer's model.

I'll take a crack at it. But really need better pics. Tang with most characters. "sho wa jyu hachi nen hachi gatsu" Sho wa- 1926, 10+8-year, 8 month. August 1943.
The month/year really don't quite match our calendar. The other side looks like not enough characters.

Serendipitously I ran across the translation of the maker side. A smith named Sukemitsu (WWII era). Where the blade meets the tang should be a character that means this is a factory blade made under his supervision, not a hand made blade. Don't know if it is a type 98 or a type 3.
