Underwood Flip Sight Location?
Haven't posted in ages.....I searched, and apologize if this is a rehash of any earlier threads.
I was looking at (2) Underwoods earlier today, both purportedly un-restored, both with all original and correct early features. One is an S-code, one a T-code, both from the "second" Underwood serial number block. I have a B-code, all original unrestored, from the same block, so these caught my eye.
On both of them, the flip sight was installed almost flush to the right side of the dovetail slot, rather than centered. I couldn't see any indication that the flip sights were replacements of later adjustable sights, and found the installation interesting.
Was this a common procedure to correct for aiming? I expected to see the sights centered, but they were virtually identical in location.

If not centered,
I most often see Flip sights pushed more toward the Left side.... Muzzle pointed away.

Sometimes people do that to hide the craters from an adjustable sight (or the repair to hide them) which was usually done on the right side of the dove tail.

A few things to consider or look for if you're still interested:
1. There's a low chance of having an S and T code Underwood in the same location at the same time, unrestored or not. Try and think like a scammer would, i.e. what bait am I going to use?
2. If the flip sight is sitting all the way right then someone could be trying to also hide removal marks on that side, which should be there in at least some cases.
3. Look at other areas like the front sights of both guns to see if they have been removed.
4. Look for any finish scrapes on the left side of the dovetail where the flip sights probably once resided. It they were there at some time more than likely there should be some "footprint" evidence.
5. Always, tread lightly in a case like this and protect yourself first.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
They were so far outside my price range that they were never a serious option.
