Shill bidding is were some people who are known to the dealer or person running the auction participate. This is for a bad purpose. The idea is to try and drive up the price and force legitimate bidders to pay more for the item they want. It is hoped that this can push bidders closer to their max amount or convince them the item is desireable making them bid more. It is a disgusting practice and unfortunately one that has been around a long time.

Shill bids.
A clue is when re see an item re-listed after it has closed with several bids. I have run into it several ocassion on Gunbroker, mostly with antique Old West guns, back when I had money. In the old days it was easy to check on bidders and see if they had feedbacks, etc. I was bidding on an 1873 Winchester 38 WCF about 6 or 7 years ago, and the guy had a shill bidder. He contacted me after it closed (I was not high bid) and said the buyer couldn't go through with the purchase. I researched and found that same buyer was bidding on other open auctions the guy had.

My stock was victim to that OD hammer and chisel discussed earlier!

What are you trying to do Curt? Are you trying to change this thread back to the original subject or something?
('Shill bidders' should be hanged with their own computer cables!)
I'd love to see what your M2 field mod looks like. (Really)
