Put gift wrapping paper on the backer first then a target, I do with every new toy first time out.

I did that once with a K98k whose crown was shot out and shot 1 meter groups at 100 yards.

Sometimes you just have to take a spotter with you.

A second range attempt. 83 degrees, sunny, little wind. I used a folded 40"x44" folded cardboard box as a backstop to see any misses. Almost didn't need it. I've added an original nipple. This time I threw the ramrod down the barrel three times each round to engage the skirt into the rifling. Much better results this time. I experimented with a 6:00 hold and normal. Found out the normal hold was right on; I hit the 3, 9, and 7:00 7-rings on three consecutive shots. Three hits were just off the target and one flyer, still on the board backing at 1:00.

You should be able to able to get a nice group at 100 yards. Sizing the bullets and adjusting the powder charge will give better results.

I have found that backing off the charge a bit helps with the thin shirted Minies. Try 40-50gr. then various granulations if that helps. I have one that likes fg and another that prefers fffg.
Best bullets to date (except for speed of reloading) have been the Hornady Great Plains bullets. The last band to enter the barrel is big, so you need a short starter to get it in the bore. Charge weights on these can be rather stouter!

I use a 350gr. Wadcutter and 40grs. At 50 and 100yrds. I've also started to use the Lyman international bullet at a 100yrds. It's a little heavier and has more bearing surface.
You should be able to hit a clay pigeon sized target consistently at 50 yards and a 4x6 tile at 100 yards. n-ssa.org may be of some help.
