I'm also a gun nut and have been teased about just that. I once scrounged almost fifteen minutes looking for a single 310 Cadet case.
I don't drive a Bentley, but the fact that I pulled up in a Lincoln didn't go unmentioned. One fellow I know recently sold his Bentley but kept his Hummer. Why?

I figured it was an overrun for somebody. I'm glad I am a beneficiary of ammo production used to win the cold war. Just wish I could get more of it!!

John, correcto-mundo! And I suspect that the SA ball that was surplused out with dates in the late 70s and 80 was over runs for the Rhodesian conflict. The K-cars (helicopter gunships) had .303 Browning aircraft MGs on them for the rate of fire. Rhodesia got its supply from SA. SA stopped supplying Rhodesia to force them to the bargaining table. One result - overstock on .303 ball.

Speaking of contract overruns for the muj: Has anyone had experience with West German MEN-83-Z? I bought 500 from Paragon back in the days... bright and shiny, nicely boxed, but gave sticky bolt lift in my main rifle. I ended up pulling the remainder down, and reducing the charge in half grain increments until it ended up being a two grain reduction.

Anybody know if the South African ammo is still around? Have some in clips within bandoleers. Nice stuff and very clean. Might like to get more.
