Immediately at the end of WW1 all M1917's were overhauled at Springfield. Then placed in war reserve for 20 years. Hauled out in 1940-41 and re-issued. Many were given away to our allies. They went though minor rebuilds in 1942-'45 and surplused off in 1946-50. They have a great history and it is common to find them with all sorts of barrels, bolts, stocks on them.
