Hope you do not mind a bit of CPR on this older thread.
I scored a Hakim this week end and have a question. No matter what I try I cannot get the dust cover disengage from the bolt carrier or the safety to go into the left (fire position). I disassembled the bolt carrier and see no signs of damage or fouling. No apparent damage to the part of the safety that protrudes into the trigger group and the lever will go full left when off the rifle. I know these are a bit of an odd design perhaps someone reassembled incorrectly?
Any help would be appreciated but I hate to take it to the gunsmith and spend more $ if it is something I can fix.

The book says:
Move safety to the right
Push dust cover forward so it locks on bolt carrier, pull back
Remove the magazine
Move dust cover/bolt carrier forward one inch (or two) move safety to middle position, pull out block which includes safety
Slide bolt carrier and cover off back
Turn carrier upside down, roll bolt out of carrier
Hold bolt carrier against block of wood, push button to release recoil spring
Slide bolt carrier out of cover
Reassemble is just the reverse with the following notes:
A screwdriver must be used to press the bolt carrier far enough for the button to engage
When the bolt is laid on the bolt carrier and rolled into place it must be held together while slid onto the receiver rails
The bolt will catch on the hammer which must be slightly depressed with a finger for it to slide forward, when the block is returned to the receiver, push the dust cover against it and move the safety to the left position. The carrier and bolt will slam forward.
A Collector's Guide to Military Rifle Disassembly and Reassembly - I highly recommend getting a copy, not expensive and covers just about every notable rifle type.

I was not able to get the saftey into the left (fire) position before or after disassembly. I am able to get the carrier to slam forward in the conventional method by holding the saftey lever in the center position pushing the dust cover slightly forward and pulling it back (mag removed). I think I may have an internal issue.

I don't quite understand the "roll" of the bolt but that might be the issue if it has not been "rolled" into the correct position or rolled in upside down. I think it's probably something that is easy to see when you have the parts in hand and are doing it.
I guess the other thing would be to look for burrs or wear spots on the parts.

The bolt will only ride in flat side down so I think that much is correct. Found a post about trigger problems related to action screw shims that may cause some issues trigger group may be riding to high in the stock creating a problem with its relationship with the saftey. I think I will take a close look at the part of the saftey that protrudes into the action and determine if there is an issue there. Did you ever score one? Based on gunbroker and refrence book think I did ok on this one (if this problem is not serious) all original 1961 with sling and cleaning rod bore looks very nice.. Also scored my first Sweede a very nice M38.Very slow day at the fun show worked in my favor.

Safety is put in the middle position to remove. And it did take a bit of fooling with to remove the dustcover from the bolt. But have gotten it down to a bit of a science. I love these rifles...everything is but the norm with them!

They say they are real range clearers due to the muzzle break. I hope I can figure out the problem without having to make a significant donation to my gunsmith in dollars and lost range time.
I did find a set of diaassembly /assembly instructions that worked well. With carrier cover in full forward position release the bolt catch which lands the bolt cover right in your hand to relieve the spring pressure. Reassemble in reverse placing the bolt and carrier into their rails first sliding full forward then on with the cover along its rails being careful the spring is properly engaged on the pin in the bolt cover press forward over the carrier until it locks. No flying springs.

One sold here recently that was listed at $450. Not sure if the guy held out for that or not. He had it listed in the locals for a week. I was watching to see if and when it sold. It seemed a fair price.
