I wondered years ago when I was begging pistols to do the pistol portion of the small arms instructor course in Gagetown, why didn't they just purchase new Mk3 Hi Powers direct from Belgium. That way our remaining parts would be useful. Our mags were the real issue, they'd been damaged and mandrelled out to shape again and some had lost their strength. Instead we messed around and FN and Browning quit making Hi Powers...

My first gun was an BHP, bought in new in the box 1971. Used it for IPSC. Sold it at about 40 000 rounds. Ransom rest at 25m showed a group of about 50mm then. Rattled like a lot of tin cans in the back of the truck but still accurate. Started with 2 magazines, the war in Angola gave me another 3, about 1975/6. Still used them for competition when I sold it, and the new owner put about another 40 000 through it [he said] before he sold it.
In all my years of use replaced the safety catch, extractor, locking bar in the frame. Guncoted once.

Some of our had the slot in the butt for the stock, had been filled with weld. Ours were a bit older than that.

Nice pistol! I had a MK 1* years ago and eventually sold it. In the late 80s, I took it to a LEO firearms instructors class along with my Department Issue Model 59 S&W "wonder 9". The ammo they sent us to the class with was some surplus Israeli 9mm SMG ammo in 25 round packs with pull strings, that they had gotten a lot of, really cheap (At that time our SWAT had Uzis and HK MP5s). It was way to hot for our aluminum framed Model 59s, but my Inglis Hi Power gobbled it up. I was knocking down the poppers like I was shooting a .45.
I just pulled the pin for another CH prefix MK 1* (see my thread).
