Ok thanks alot. I will get more pics tmrw. I was hoping it was original so I wouldn't have to change it. Where would I find a barrel band w/ sling attachment. I've seen them but can't find one for sale anywhere

If you place an ad here in the WTB section, you may be able to find one right here.

I did see those, the thing is without flawless pics, I have a hard time with those sort of identification issues. Or maybe with it in my hands. You have Tom Doniphon helping and he's one of the ones you don't argue with in these matters. He'll set you right. Mind you, if the price was low enough, I might just take them on spec anyway. But that's because here in Canada, there's almost nothing to choose from. Then I could use the Mod 12 for a shooter...

Model 12 front sling swivel
There are plenty of clamp on style shot gun front sling swivels, but the swivel is on the side. After seeing this picture, I think I can make one of these using an extra magazine band (or just the one on my gun) then cutting/forming/welding pieces of a 1903A3 upper sling swivel to it. Clean it up and either parkerize or Duracoat. Finding an original one of these may take some time. Then install on the shot gun.

That would probably do the trick all right. I'd use the round sling loop, not the stamped one. It would look good.

My experience is limited but.....
It looks like a trench gun stock on a riot. my riot guns have never had a sling provision but my trench guns did. .02

That makes more sense than anything else explaining why it's like that.

The "spud" that you are referencing is in fact a trench gun part as I assume your butt stock is as well. It is there to position and retain your magazine tube using the bayonet lug. As a matter of fact, remove the clamp and see if the barrel has the "positioning" boss on it or if it is smooth. If the barrel is smooth underneath, you actually have a trench gun sans the heat shield and bayonet lug. I have never seen sling swivels on riot guns. But I have certainly not seen them all either. I have seen trench guns without the bayonet lug that had their magazine tubes held in place with the clamp pictured here. It is originally off of a Model 50 Winchester......
Cheers

You better go back and read the whole thread. Then go up and look at the pics...the "Spud" you think we don't understand is clearly for a sling swivel. See my copied pic...Attachment 49307
