I have trouble with my Nr 9 with target ammunition. Generally works fine with CCI standard - might be worth a try if you havn't done so.

Also bear in mind that the No. 2 rifle was designed to use STANDARD velocity ammo with un-plated, waxed lead bullets, not modern, high-velocity stuff; after all the rifle was supposed to be used as a trainer, often indoors. Given that pretty much all of the powder in a .22 Long-Rifle case is burnt in a 16" barrel, the bullet would be more-or-less coasting as it left the muzzle.
Get a few boxes of lower-velocity stuff and see how you go, while I keep digging for that drawing.
I have been using Winchester PowerPoint HV in one of my No2s for years with very good results, have taken it Rabbit hunting & Possum hunting many times & there appears to be no real difference in the noise level than a mates suppressed 10-22 using sub-sonics so the projectile must be leaving the muzzle at sub-sonic speed so no "crack" from the sonic boom, however there is the occasional (but far &few between) "crack" but i also found there was the occasional crack from subs even in my old smallbore target rifle.
