Hi, I really enjoy your website . Lots of good information here. I have noticed at my local range that people shooting milsurps always seem the friendliest. Always enjoy talking about old guns. butcharoot

Hello, im a new member and collector; starting to search for Lee Enfields. Great forum, I've learned lots so far, its nice that there is a community that cares for the milsurps, as opposed to those that refer to these fine old firearms as "those old 303.'s (why would you want one of them?)".

    Introducing Canadian Gunner

Hello Badger and all the members of this excellent forum:

My name is Mike Calnan, I'm a Major and an Instructor-in-Gunnery in the Royal Canadian Artillery with 35 years of service so far. After so many years on Guns and missile launchers, I am somewhat deaf, but I still have all my fingers!

I joined this forum as a research tool as I am also the President and Curator of the Swords and Ploughshares Museum near Ottawa, Canadaicon. You can visit our little military museum at The Swords And Ploughshares Museum.

We collect all manner of militaria with a focus on the Canadian Gunner and the tools of his or her trade- guns, missile launchers, tractors, prime movers, small arms, uniforms, etc, etc. We do collect non-Canadian artefacts, especially if they were used by Canada or shot at by Canadian Gunners! Ours is a living history museum so we take the kit out to the public in parades and shows and enjoy making very loud booms firing our restored artillery pieces.

I would happily be a consultant to forum members on artillery questions... if I don't have the answer at hand I have many Gunner friends with deeper knowledge than my own who I can ask.

When I'm not at work or tinkering with the artefacts at the museum I've been known to jump out of the odd airplane or paddle around under the sea with a scuba tank on my back.

    Cheers and Ubique!

    Mike

    Hi Guy's

I have been collecting military rifles and handguns since 1966. I have most WWI & WWII rifles and many of the handguns. I just love shooting this old stuff. When I was in college we had a group at the Champagne County (Illinois) gun club that shot Military surplus rifles on Sat AM's. We had a tin cup at the 50 yard bench and it cost .25 a shot to try to hit a bright yellow anti-freeze can firing from the standing position. You won quite a few quarters whenever you hit the anti-freeze can, LOL! My favorite rifle was a .50-70 Allen conversion Trapdoor Springfield. I had two pieces of brass and a lee loader primer punch. I just reloaded those two pieces of brass over and over right in the field with black powder from a pistol flask. I dumped two loads in and won the quarters plenty of times.
