Thanks for the welcome everyone. I guess it will be on Tuesday. Monday is Presidents day, and I just checked the USPS calander. Makes me want to slam my head against the wall! Well, patience is a virtue, and I have waited since July, but still!

USPS may be closed Monday, but I don't think UPS, or FedEx. Depends on how it is being shipped.

It is USPS. I am pretty excited about this rifle. Based on the pictures and the history of it (1 owner for 50 years), I am pretty sure it is a bringback. I guess it could possibly be a DCM rifle, but when did they start selling carbines? It all appears to be original. Based on the pictures, it has that "look" about it. It is all Inland, except for the hammer. It has an Underwoood hammer, but I will not change it out. I would not be surprised if it is the original one. Either way, it has been there a long time that we know.

Alright, it finally came today, and at the very end of the day. I was on pins and needles the whole day! Anyway, the M1icon is much better than the pictures. Absolutey unmessed with rifle. Never sanded, rebuilt, etc. It was very dry though. All I did was clean the metal with some q tips and oil, grease it properly, and put a little raw linseed oilicon on the stock. Now if you go back to the original post, Chuck said that the rifle belonged to an Iwo Jima vet who lived next store and that this was his rifle. Now he never claimed that it went to Iwo, and in my conversations never claimed it either. I find it interesting though, that it arrived on the 68th anniversary of the start of the battle. We should never forget the 6,800 some Marines who died taking that island. It must have been a hellish place to have been. Said a little prayer for the men who died there. May they RIP.

Very nice carbine to get. I spent part of the anniversary of Iwo thinking about my father. He served on Iwo, landing on D-Day +6, and stayed until after VJ Day. He carried an Inland M1icon Carbine on IWO. I also spent some time looking at some of his Iwo memorabilia: maps, pamphlets, a bottle of Iwo black sand, de-commissioned Type 97 and US mK I grenades.

Did some more examination of the rifle, in particular the sling. Some made the comments that the sling was not original, but it has been on it for 50 years, and it is old. I do not believe repros were around back then. I think it is a Reising SMG sling, issued to the Marines. They are similair to the carbine slings, but are a couple of inches shorter, and the loop where the lift the dot is is longer. This sling is a couple of inches shorter, and the loop is a little longer. The witness marks on the stock, where the back of lift the dot stud has rubbed, has been there a long time. Given the history of the rifle, which I do not doubt, it would make sense. Alot of carbines seemed to have been issued with this sling. Looking at period photos, especially in the Pacific war, also shows the same characteristics, especially the longer loop. So, anyway, that is what I think. I could be wrong, if so, let me know!
