Tom, From what I've read they were issued to the Navy, but some say the Army too ?? There was another identical pistol produced by Simpson in Germany for Argentina in .440 (Argentine) Nagant.
The cartridge was a tad longer than the Brazilian one and had a different bullet, although different name and a slight difference on the rim, the .440 case was the same as the S&W American.......
