Remington Portable No. 1
Here it is. Found this at a steal at the Hartville, OH flea market. It's been degassing in the garage since June.
Serial says NA38541, which puts its manufacture sometime in 1923.
Still has its original metal ribbons. The platen is hard, but no cracks. It will clean up nice.
In my experience, most of the filth (cigarette ashes, dog hair, gum, legos, etc.) collects under the paper tray. There are 2 hinge pins that hold it on, very awkward to get out. Removing the paper tray also gives access to the rollers, which I'll want to clean and soften as well.
A seller on Etsy makes new rubber feet. they are basically grommets with different OD on each side. These are shot. The case is in pretty good shape. Some bird crap and other filth needing cleaned off. No key.
Next post will be all serviced and working and looking pretty when I give it to my daughter for Christmas.
