barrel up pressure setting?
I've just noticed that my no4 enfields, 2, both have near zero pressure holding the barrel into the bottom bearing at the front of the forend, essentially they're near floating, with the added hassle that they touch and no doubt vibrate on the surrounding wood.
I'm familiar with the next steps but want to check a couple of points;
Was the up pressure 8-10 pounds for the no4? Is higher better ie 10?
If I put a cigarette paper under the barrel and it comes free at eg the 10 pound level, is it correctly set when I can first move the paper?
Do no1mk3's have the same system of up pressure and is the poundage the same?
thanks R

3 to 7 pounds IIRC.
I checked mine recently with a fish scale and they all seem to be between 4 and 6.

just to clarify this 100% . We are saying here that it should take 3 - 7 pounds of weight hanging from the muzzle WHEN THE RIFLE IS UPSIDE DOWN to move the barrel off the forend....right?

Hi Newcastle, Thats my understanding of how it works, I'm new to this tho and could need correcting easily. I've never really looked closely at my no4's, just assumed they were OK, but some members remarks here about the quality of their shooting with good pressures got me to thinking. I'm a bit dismayed to find that two of my rifles essentially have zero pressure .

R, The target upward pressure is 5 lbs. Most rifles will shoot more consistantly with the upward pressure, a very few don't care. My 'match' No.4 has zero upwards pressure. Adding upwards pressure with some cloth handlebar tape made no difference except for when a bayonet was attached.
