M1 Carbine aims 3" left

My IMI 30 Carbine shoots flawlessly with original GI mags, groups 1-2" at 50 yds, but centers 2-3" to the right. I must adjust my rear sight almost all the way to the left to hit center target. Love the gun. Can I fix it?

I assume IMI is an aftermarket maker? Do you have another stock to try on it? Stock bedding can affect windage. It's probably a case where the front sight was installed slightly canted. this is REALLY hard to fix on an M1 carbine as it usually involves having to rotate the barrel.

Have you taken it to a gunsmith to look at?

I had a similar problem this past weekend with my carbine. It was shooting dead centre but 7 inches high at 50 yards at the lowest setting (with a longer, non-restricted barrel). While waiting for the rain to subside so that I could put up 100m targets, I was consistently able to hit a gong at 200m with the same sight setting, resting it off a block of wood.

Once I tried the carbine at 100yards, it consistently grouped about 3" right with the same setting, both from a sitting postion and off of my MTM Predator Rest (and yes, I do think that I'll need to buy or borrow a real rest next time).

As it stands now, the carbine shoots tight (under 1.5" at 50 yards if you discount the flier) and can consistently hit the target at 100m if I aim about 10-12" low. It would be nice to sight it in close enough to POA that I could use it on coyotes or smaller game at least within 100yrds, since that's all that I'd use it for if I had the opportunity to hunt with it.

I have seen this in all carbines from Inlands to Postal Meters. I'm thinking the BBl needs a hair more twist to the right. I'm gonna put mine in BBl bloks and see. also be sure that the BBl douesnt touch the stock or upper handguard where it comes thru after the band is tightened.

Don't try to rotate the barrel without proper barrel wrench and receiver wrench!!! You stand an excellent chance of ruining your receiver. You can also twist a swaged-on gas block out of position. I have seen both done. BAD.

Anybody else seen the imports that had the importers stamp on the barrels roll stamped so hard/ poorly done that the barrel actually bent?? you could see the bend- we blacksmithed the barrel on lead blocks/with a lead hammer crude but it worked

2 things iv seen.
barrels out of index.{most common}
and bent barrels..they can be straightened..likely this is your issue...
out of index usually wont effect the bullet. more issue with the operation of the slide, and bolt.
slide pops off the bolt way, and or wont feed right.
if you look at the bottom side of the receiver face, youl see a witness mark, it matches one on the shoulder of the barrel.
even if the meet right,
to check,
set upside down in a soft jawed vise, with a bubble level; level the reciever, then check the flat on the barrel, they should be exactly the same..if not you have an issue.
More likely you have a bent barrel, just tweek it litely the other way, careful, dont push too hard it will bend easy,,just enough to get it done,
eyeball it first..and recheck..
