    Good Price?

    Picasa Web Albums - W - LEE ENFIELD N...

This is one of those rifles from http://johnsoncollector.com/home , listed at $629 shipped. Some of the prices seem steep, but this one's not as bad. I am leery, however, because I've never heard anything about this fellow and he lists them as 'collectibles only'. Anyone have experience with this individual?

The price of Enfields seems to have dropped recently with the influx of Pakistani/Indian surplus but not on Irish contract rifles. I recall that P&S had one degreased rifle just like this, with bayonet and sling for $550 but I haven't seen one listed at Epps, P&S, or CGN for some time now. I'm just waiting for a recent CGN transaction to complete before I post a WTB ad, but do any of you die hard collectors have any info on where to source one of these for a reasonable price? Not looking for a wrapped rifle, just something degreased or a plain FTR'ed rifle with the same blond beech furniture.

In my opinion, way over priced for a common FTR'd Enfield in it's condition....

Just out of curiosity, what makes you say it's FTR'd and not a de-greased Irish Contract rifle? Numbers appear to match and I don't see any FTR markings.

I could be wrong, but when I look at the pics of the receiver, they appear to show standard Fazakerly FTR markings?

Alsom it's condition doesn't appear to me to be one of the degreased Enfields, often referred to as part of the Irish Contract and I always thought these Irish denoted contract rifles were later into the 1950's? Do we know the serial number?

    Regards,
    Badger

Serial number on the receiver is 10/49 PF 139904. Serial number on the underside of the forestock is 139904, along with what appears to be F U7 and M 16 . Bolt has the same serial number. I do not see "FTR" anywhere on the rifle.

From the MKLicon, the serial range is supposed to be PF 309348 - PF 359347 so I suppose this rifle is not Irish contract, just a regular blond. The problem is, these blonds are getting hard to find.

I think it's time for a WTB ad and an email to P&S.

It's not an FTR, but it's not irish contract either. It's a regular brit production Mk2 in VG+ condition. Still on the high side for an unwrapped Mk2 though IMHO.

Better deal to get a currently available POFicon Mk2 in same condition plus it comes with a nicer walnut stock.

I considered it, but I'm looking for blond. Been trading a few emails with the fellow, says he's a collector in Toronto with a big collection. Still, without a CGN trader rating or a business license I'm very cognizant of 'buyer beware'. That and for the price P&S could sell me two.

I'd be a little nervous too....

I'm in Toronto (N/E GTA), so if I can help you check it (or him) out, let me know...

I really do appreciate the offer Doug, but after some more deliberation I'm going to go in another direction. Something about this just doesn't sit well. My WTB ad yielded a couple responses already, and for $630 on a mystery seller I could flop down a little bit more and buy from one of us.

For those interested, here's a copy of the exchange. My first suspicion is in the typing, all upper-case, the second is that he doesn't know what he has in his own 'vault'.

    Hi,

I am interested in two of the Lee Enfields that you have listed.

The first is the Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk. II. Picasa Web Albums - W - LEE ENFIELD N...
My question regarding this rifle is if the price includes the sling and blade type bayonet that commonly come with these rifles.

The second is the Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk. II that is still in arsenal wrap. I notice this rifle does not have a price listed yet. If this rifle is available for purchase, I would like to know if it is still paired with the correct sling and bayonet and what the price is.
    HI JEREMY
SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN GETTING BACK TO YOU--ARE YOU IN CANADA OR THE U.S.?
    REGARDS
    BILL
    Manitoba.
    HI JEREMY
THE ARSENAL WRAPPED ONE MAY BE SOLD---I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW IF SOMEBODY WILL FOLLOW THROUGH ON THAT COMMITMENT UNTIL THEIR MAIL SHOWS UP--10% OF THE TIME PEOPLE DONT FOLLOW THROUGH--THE OTHER ENFIELD IS STILL AVAILABLE--I DO HAVE A SLING FOR IT WHICH I WOULD INCLUDE--BUT NO BAYONET.
    JEREMY
I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THAT THE WRAPPED ONE IS 1365.00
AND I DO HAVE AN UNISSUED BAYONET FOR IT AND WOULD ALSO INCLUDE A SLING.
    Bill,

I am more interested in the out of the wrap No. 4 Mk. II. I have a question about the business itself, however. Are you a business, individual seller with a website, third party?
    HI JEREMY
I'M JUST A PRIVATE COLLECTOR--IVE ONLY BOUGHT FOR THE LAST 33 YEARS AND NEVER INTENDED TO SELL ANYTHING--IVE DECIDED TO SELL ANYTHING IVE NEVER USED AND DUPLICATES FIRST.I CANT TAKE THEM WITH ME-I'M 60 AND JUST RETIRED (ITS HELL BEING RETIRED AFTER 42 YEARS OF UNINTERRUPTED WORK :-))---THE VAULT IS FULL AS WELL.I SET UP THE WEB SITE FOR SECURITY---TOO MANY COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STOLEN IN TORONTO--AND THE COLLECTORS ARE BLAMED BY OUR MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF.
I GET QUITE A FEW EMAILS FROM PEOPLE WHO WANT TO COME BY AND LOOK OVER MY HANDGUNS.I JUMP AT THAT OPPORTUNITY---I NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AFTER I ASK FOR A COPY OF THEIR PAL AND DRIVER'S LICENSE.
I SOLD ABOUT 60 GUNS LAST YEAR--I HOPE THINGS SLOW DOWN THIS YEAR--THAT WAS A LOT OF PACKING AND TRIPS TO THE POST OFFICE.EVERYBODY GOT WHAT WAS IN THE PICTURES.I SAVED SOME ON MY SOLD PAGE.I SOLD THE DUELING PISTOLS TO A GUY IN SPAIN,SOLD THE NO7 TO A GUY IN ENGLAND--SOLD ABOUT 9 TO U.S. BUYERS AND THE BALANCE IN CANADA.
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS PLS EMAIL ME.
PAYMENT IS BY PERSONAL CHEQUE PAYABLE TO ME.SELLING CONTROLLED ,REGISTERED, ITEMS MEANS NO RISK .I USED TO ASK FOR COPY OF PAL AND DRIVERS LICENSE --BUT PAL INFO IS ADEQUATE FOR LONG GUNS.PRICES ARE DELIVERED IN CANADA.
    Bill,

I appreciate the information and don't worry, I have a PAL and I don't mind going through the transfer procedures. I've been looking for a blond beech wood stocked No. 4 for some time now, and the rifle you have just might fit the bill, particularly since shipping is included in the price. If you happen to have any No. 9 blade type bayonets I'd also be interested in picking one up.

I have one more question about payment. I can do a personal cheque but this add time to the process. Is there any chance you are familiar with the EMT electronic money transfer process, or are you willing to take a bank/postal money order?
    JEREMY
A SOLDER FROM CFB EDMONTON EMAILED ME THE FUNDS FOR SOME RIFLES--INTERAC EMT IS FINE---TO WILLIAM SZABO--I USED TO ASK FOR MONEY ORDERS---BUT SINCE WE ARE DEALING IN A CONTROLLED ITEM I NEVER WORRY ABOUT A CHEQUE CLEARING.ITS YOUR CHOICE--CHEQUE-MONEY ORDER-OR EMT.IF I HAVE A SPARE BAYONET ILL JUST INCLUDE IT.THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS AT THE BACK OF THE VAULT I HAVENT LOOKED AT IN A WHILE.I RECENTLY DISCOVERED A FAIRBAIRN SYKES KNIFE ID FORGOTTEN ABOUT.I SHIP OUT THE RIFLE WHEN I GET THE CFC TRANSFER CONFIRMATION.I MAIL THEM INSURED, SIGNATURE REQUIRED FOR PROOF OF DELIVERY.

I dunno, I don't get any bad vibes from the correspondence. Just sounds like an old guy who isn't very computer savvy...?
