    Interesting 1863 Springfield 'carbine'.

I like my milsurps unaltered, un-Bubba'd, and unmessed with. That being said, occasionally you run into one that is just so gosh darned unique you can't help but bring it home.
Such is the case with this 1863 Springfield 'carbine'. Someone quite some time ago put a lot of work into this really nice and attractive piece. It really is a good looking gun. I'm guessing it is a 'bitsa'...we have an 1863 dated lock, an 1864 dated barrel (VP eagle and LFR inspection stamp) all sitting in what looks like a trapdoor stock. The rear sight is correct(?) thought they were shorter on these rifles. Guessing a custom made ramrod and holder.
Its light and feels absolutely perfect when you shoulder it..I cannot wait to load it up and shoot it. Enjoy the pics!

I can see how this happened, it coming home. Wonder what prompted this build? Could it have been a burst barrel and a cut and adjust? Things happen when you have the parts.

Very nice! Hard to saw what the history was but it looks nicely done. Keep us posted about how it shoots.
