Butt Plate Screws Difficult To Screw In To NOS 03A3 Stock

I recently purchased a NOS 03A3 stock which I would like to install on my Springfield. It is extremely difficult to screw in the butt plate screws and I am afraid of damaging the stock or screws by torquing them any more. Would appreciate any advise offered!

Have you tried putting a little soap on the screws?

I use the Chapman gun screw driver kit, it has a torque drive wrench that will screw that large 1903 butt screw in all the way and
will not mark-up the screw head, soap not required

    they need tapped , also,
if you have repro screws, they are known to be over sized. iv found this a few times.
soap works well, go in, turn out go in farther, turn out,, take your time
