    Thumbs up Thanks Peter Laidler!

Have had one of the SAMMI .303 field gauges that is .070. I soon learned it was pretty useless as a gauge to measure anything concerning the .303 Enfield. Threw it in the tool box drawer and forgot about. I was reading a headspace thread here were Mr. Laidlericon made the comment of using the gauge and a piece of feeler gauge in the correct thickness to make a proper headspace measurement.

Cutting a .004 piece of feeler gauge to properly fit the SAMMI .070, a spot of epoxy to hold it in place, and after carefully clamping the parts together and allowing to dry, I now have a useful SAMMI/LAIDLER .074 field gauge for 303 Enfield!

It was such an elegant, simple fix I had to laugh. Duh!

Thanks again Peter! I owe you a beer or two.

The shim trick also works with regular old brsss cases, unless you intend using them daily. Just add whatever's required to bring the thickness up to no-go spec.
