A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Hi Tony...

It would help if you could post some pics of the rifle, although it sounds like a K98kicon German Mauser, perhaps manufactured by J.P. Sauer.

Here's a good article in our Q&A forums by Stevo, that talks about how to do that....

How do I upload or post images on MILSURPS.COM? (click here)

If you email me your pics to badger@milsurps.com , host and post them in this thread ...

    Regards,
    Badger

It is difficult to comment without a more torough description or a picture, but a 147 on the receiver would, as Badger indicates, indicate manufacture by J.P. Sauer Und Sohn between 1938 and 1941 in Germanyicon.
