Could the mark you are uncertain about, in the slingwell, be an L.A. If you can post a pic, I am sure we can all help you. Mike.

Hi again guys... I borrowed a camera to take a few more photos. I'm new at this digital photo stuff, so bear with me. I did get some shots of the ser. no., etc. I hope this helps some of you to get a better idea of this carbine.
Many thanks for all your input thus far.

4-digit Inland made around August 1942, despite the limited photos it looks original with the I-cut high wood stock. Would probably get $2000+ at auction.

The bbl date shows 7 - 1942, so that fits.
In respect to my friends dad, I would have to see USMC discharge papers before I would sell it to them

Feel free to post all the pictures you'd like.
We'll enjoy them.
Try setting that camera on the 'Macro' setting (The little Flower symbol) for real close detail.
Also interested in pics of the slingwell markings, internals, barrel band, barrel date marking, front sight........basically anything you can get pics of.
If you'll click on this link for the Carbine Club you can download a Data Sheet.

painter777,
Many thanks for the "macro" tip for the camera. I'm sure it will help on future photos.
Here's some additional photos of the sling well area. That little gizmo on the rear of the sling well is a real puzzle. I've showed it to a few afficinados and no one can ID it as yet. It doesn't show up well in these photos, but the sling well does have the crossed cannons marking in it as well.

Is that, that "damm" duck foot stamp again.....Frank

So far we've found 2 markings similar to it.
1 was called a Eagles head, pictures were posted on the us militaria forum by member Dirt Detective...... look at his pictures of 2 different Inland I cut Hi-wood stocks on both pages 1 and 2. Both have the Eagle style stamp.
My Carbine story - U.S. Militaria Forum
Second, here on this forum we looked this same stocks slingwell marking over once before. 1832's stock also happens to be a Inland I cut Hi-wood. Member USGICOLLECTOR brought up the GCA article describing the Ducksfoot or Eagle Head......

Are these two the same stamps....... I'm not sure.
What do either mean..............Not sure again.
Now do I have everyone confused? More than likely !!
Basically I've been no help at all :-(

The Duckfoot stamp does look close, but my stamp lacks the two vertical lines at the twelve-o'clock position. The image on my stock is fairly well defined at that location and no such lines can be found.
The search for my stock stamp Yoda continues...

Not a four digit, but here's another 7-42 barreled Inland that's fairly close. The markings in the sling well are very close except no duck's foot. If you get the opportunity I too would love to see some close up photos of yours. Let me know how ours differ. Thanks for sharing.
