    Inland Stock?

Currently, my Rock-ola resides in what I was told is an Inland stock. The stock was purchased separately. The stock has the faint remnants of a horizontal "HI" in the sling cutout, but has no cartouche on the right side. It also has a sans-serif "P" with no circle on the front of the grip, not on the bottom of the grip. I can find no reference to stocks with a proof mark on the front of the grip.

So, what do I have? A fake, or a USGI stock? I'm not too concerned, as it's just a holding stock until I find a correct Rock-ola stock, but when I do, IF I sell this one, I want to make sure I can advertise it as correctly as possible. Thanks for any info.

HI is Hilerich & Bradsby Co. for Inland, P on front grip is just a firing proof, most likely from arsenal rebuild.

Thanks Scott. I saw the HI was Hilerich & Bradsby Co. (in Riesch's book), but the sans-serif P on the front of the grip threw me off, as I could not reference it.

I just picked up an HI stock with a seriffed P on the grip, and it doesn't have CC or other cartouches either. It was a CMPicon take off that had a slight crack repaired professionally. Nice black walnut with BLOicon and a hint of wax rubbed in, too. I realize the CC and cartouche may have been sanded off, but were there HI stocks that had no CC or cartouche?

    RM,
I'm not sure about early HI stocks. But have seen Early OI stamped I cuts with just the OI and Bomb in the slingwell, along with the circled P proof on the bottom of the grip. No signs of ever having a Crossed Cannon.
I have one here somewhere. I'll dig it out. I recall no flat spot on the oiler side, where any CC could have been sanded off.
