Is there an easy way to......?

I'm trying to assemble an M1 carbine trigger housing. I will admit to being mechanically challenged as those kind of things go. I'm having a helluva time getting the trigger and sear lined up and stable so I can get the pin in. Anyway have an easy way to do it?

A trick: Place the sear spring in its hole in the trigger, and drop in the sear with the sear and trigger outside the housing. Line up the holes and put a round toothpick through the sear and trigger. Snip off the ends of the toothpick. Put the sear/trigger assembly in the housing and line up the holes. Use a punch the approx. size of the trigger pin hole, and push the toothpick out. Likely, you will have to wiggle it a bit. Now you have the punch to remove, so from the opposite side, insert the trigger pin, and push/tap the punch out with the pin. Now you're done. It helps to put the housing in a padded vice for the latter steps so you have both hands free.

[/COLOR]Start with the pin just into one side of the trigger, not blocking the sear. Then put the sear in the channel on the top of the trigger, and push it back into place with a small screw driver until the hole in the sear lines up, then push through the pin. Later sears have a hole in the top to use a sharp tool in to push back more securely. Another way is to assemble the trigger and sear out of the trigger guard housing, using a round tooth pick cut off flush with the sides of the trigger. Place it in and push the pin in through the housing, then through trigger and sear, displacing the tooth pick out the opposite side. AKs have a similar set up and come with a short pin to help assemble the fire control group.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I'm sending a bolt to be blued to Chuckindenver I may just send the trigger housing and let him do it..lol

Thanks Rustship. I've got a few more housings to build, so I'll try those vids next time. Looks simpler than the toothpicks I've been using

I made myself a special "short" trigger pin just for this purpose. Makes the operation a snap. 50 year old hands with a few extra thumbs and bad eyesight just couldn't cut it.

Agree with Crossed Cannons. Make a pin the width of the trigger. Assemble it outside the housing, drop it in and push out the short pin with the correct pin. Been doing it that way for 25 years. Pretty easy on the fingers.
