Further inspection from some guys on another forum brought out that there as a red cadet band on my rifle at some point in time. Does this mean I just bought an Enfield I can't shoot?

Why can I not get an Enfield that is drama free?!

Not necessarily, some cadet units actually shot their rifles quite a bit. Just the usual thing - if unsure, get it checked by a gunsmith before firing

Easier said than done in these parts. We only have two gunsmiths... one is so close to retiring he's not taking new customers and the other one really only messes with stuff that is "tacti-cool."

Well, it's a few hours drive, but I may if I don't get a customer in who knows them well.

I would second making the effort to see Brian Dickicon. (I ought to wander over that way myself, just haven't been on a roadtrip in a while!)

Take both rifles. He has Enfield knowledge and tools well beyond 99+% of the 'smiths in Dixie.

Are you sure it had red paint around the nosecap?

I don't think that being a Cadet rifle automatically makes it a "DP" drill purpose only rifle, if that's the concern.
