Question Question about unknown marking on K98k receiver

I was cleaning my K98kicon RC and I noticed a stamp on the right side of the receiver that looks like a six pointed star under the rearmost waffenamt. Any ideas as to what it means?
    The rifle is a 1940 243 code K98k RC.
There's also what appears to be an upside "W" stamped on the stock, any insights on that?

Here's a picture of the items in question.
