A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. What about you?
I would rather run the opposite way! I am a lover not a fighter! Its an Air Force thing.

While I love the carbine, I'd take a lightweight M4 in an instant.

For a Home Defense weapon, I would be equally happy with either my first choice of my Inland M1icon with 110 grain Hornady Critical Defense, or second choice, a little light weight 5.56mm CAR15 (with no tacticool junk on it). An SP1 Carbine would be my ideal HD AR platform!

If I had to have one rifle for EVERYTHING - combat, HD, hunting, etc. (especially if living in the woods with no support), it would be my converted Saiga 7.62x39 AKM clone. For an HD weapon, though, it would be overkill.

Hard to beat an AK for a main battle weapon. Not so much for hd, as you said.

I have a PTR91 .308 (H&K G3 clone) with an integral Picatinny top rail and a Redfield Revenge 3X9 with BDC for long range "reach out and touch someone" Zombie slaying. G3s are still very popular in Africa and the Middle East . While a bit heavy, even without a scope, it would be a decent Battle Rifle, even if it is a late 1st Generation, early 2nd generation weapon.

I knew a guy when I was a kid (the janitor at our school), who was an Infantry NCO that landed in Normandy on June 6th. He carried a Garand when they were out in the countryside, but when clearing houses, villages, towns, he gave his RTO his Garand, and took his carbine for house to house work. He said it NEVER failed him as far as taking out an enemy combatant. My dad used an Inland M1icon carbine on Iwo Jima the night of the big Banzai charge. He came home in one piece, and said he really liked the carbine, and it never let him down. That is as much as he would say.

I wouldn't want to say I WON'T be shooting farther than (?) distance in a city. You never know what'll happen. I'd want a weapon that can be fed with ease, so ammo is available everywhere and so are mags or spare parts. Pick ups are a possibility but I don't want to count on something I don't know for sure. Take what you need and make sure you can use it effectively.
    Regards, Jim

I do admit, that my KISS Carbine M4gery build at 6 pounds (early CAR style stock and slim handguards) is pretty light to tote around. I would rather carry 6 mags for it than 6 mags for either the AK or the G3 .308 clone. The little M1icon Carbine, with a 30 rounder in it and two 15s on the stock is still an attractive options. probably a close tie to the M4 KISS as far as weight.

And not too hard to carry one or two extra four mag 30 round pouches adding 120-240 rounds.
