Jonh172. The magazine was fitted to the rifle properly and tested and then numbered to the rifle where it stayed. They are not made to be interchangeable they are a one-man-dog. And so far as Armourers were concerned, the magazine off the shelf that was accurately fitted and numbered to your rifle was the correct one. We didn't worry about who made it or which Country it came from or whether it was new, used or refurbished - and nor should you or anyone else!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I see!
This is totally news to me thank you for the insight!

The SMLE mag that was in it fit, so therefore it is the correct one!?
It had no markings on it at all, would that still qualify?

No...... No1 magazines are for No1 rifles, No4 magazines are for No4 (and 5) rifles. And never the twain should meet

    Ok that's what I thought!
My T had a no.1 nag in it when I bought it, so I traded the guy i Got it from for a no.4 mag.
That mag happens to be an LB mag which I need for my 44 LB rifle.
So once again I'm without a mag for my BSA T sniper and figure why not get a Brit mag for my Brit rifle!?
