It is fun making a useful Kragicon out of discarded parts or a poorly done 'sporter'.

It is not as easy, now, and much more expensive than in the past.

But, probably the Krags, that I enjoy and shoot the most, I put together from parts.

I'll take some more pics of the one I did. It was a very rewarding experience, and I'll pat myself on the back for the expert level skills at slow rust bluing I developed doing this.

I had one too, it started as a chopped rifle but had lots of wood so I made a school gun out of it. Neat thing about this one was all the ink inscriptions at the top edge of the woodline against the barrel that told of places it had been when it was a ship board passenger. It had a couple of carvings in it too.

That's neat, I like it! How long is the barrel?

20" barrel...so a bit under a carbine length which a school gun should be. Sure turned out neat though. Someone had carefully redone the front sight.

Matt, There are 2 cutdown Kragicon stocks on Oldguns.net website. I've bought stocks from them before and they worked out fine. Salt Flat

    Figured that I'd update y'all.

My plan to restore my parade receiver went a bit sideways. I made the mistake of buying a smle that had been converted to 45-70 Government & got to wondering what else could that cartridge get shoved into.

Turns out, it'll just barely fit into the Kragicon capsule mag. Since I don't want a single shot rifle, I'm still in the process of figuring out how to get them to feed from the magazine. Which at this point primarily consists of getting the cartridges to round the corner from the magazine up to the receiver.

Found all the rest of the parts. Found a chopped stock. Got a barrel blank on order that I'll get to work on.

Note, no original functioning rifles were butchered in the making of this project. This is a collection of scrounge up parts. Gun shows, garage sales, flea markets & the internet.

What about 38-55 then? The base is closer to what you started with and the pressures are down a bit.

Guess I'm too late on that suggestion.

Simple reasoning actually. As a family the wife & I shoot a lot of 45-70. We've got more rifles in this caliber than anything else, so it made sense to give it a try.

Plus if it doesn't work out, I've an extra smle receiver that someone cut the charger bridge off of. I could use my barrel blank with that & make a sporter closer to my own taste.

OK, I get it. I wonder about the fit (or squeeze) as it goes from mag to chamber. I know you spoke of it, you may need some major carving there. The Lee Enfield had a basic start in that caliber so they had a head start. Still, it needs a bit to complete. The P14 actions saw some conversion to 45/70 too...I did one years ago.
    Regards, Jim
