    "Motty Special" at the range

I've had this rifle for some time; A 1900 MLE Mk I*. It has a Motty barrel installed, and had been a target rifle at some point in its long life. Recently, found a Mues sight for it. With the standard long-lee rearsight, this thing never shot very well. I installed the Mues, and took it to my local range.

Well, after some bore sighting, I put two handloads through it. Both loads approximate the earlier Mk6 load, with velocities held to around 2000 fps. On the first target, the first 5 rounds were high (using a 6 o'clock hold). I drop the elevation three clicks, and the 6th round fell very low. I added one click up and send the next 14 rounds into the 9 and 10 rings. Same on the second target; 15 rounds without touching the sights. All at 100 yards.

I was amazed how well this rifle shoots! I'm going to cook up more handloads and run it out to 200 and 300 yards, to how well it shoots at those ranges. This is a pleasant rifle to shoot, and is becoming one of my favorites.

Question for you, did Motty make his own barrels, or were they bought in?

Motty purchased selected BSA barrels until import restrictions stopped the supply.
Then purchased select Lithgowicon barrels for both LLE's and SMLE's

That’s a good shooting rifle. Are you going to try cast bullets?
