    2 Groove Barrels

Did any one other than Remington make 2 groove barrels? My SC (built around 8/43 per Poyer's book) has a 2 groove: no doubt a replacement. This rifle was ordered through the DCM in 1962 and the barrel subsequently has been cut.

Another SC question: I have 6 spare '03/A3 bolts. Two are in their original wrapping (paired) in the box that had 4 bolts in it marked Smith Corona. I sold the other two bolts. The safety lug on these bolts is a "square" lump as opposed to the '03 contour. Another bolt has stampings on the underside of the root, a lightly marked "X" and a deeper "P". That bolt has the contour but not as "graceful" as an '03 bolt. Is this an SC bolt?

As an aside, another 2 bolts are in the original Brown & Sharpe box and have the safety lug barely beveled of the foreward corner.

Bolt #6 is an ordinary Remington with the contoured lug and the "R" stamped root.

The story goes that S-C may well have made a very small number of 2 groove barrels at the very end of their contract. I have never seen one, by the way. How is your barrel marked?

Calif-Steve is correct. Smith-Corona made a few 2-groove barrels near the end of production, but they are extremely rare. With an 8/43 SC receiver, you most assuredly have a Remington barrel.

Bolt #3 does not match the description of an SC bolt.

The 2 groove barrels listed on the VI Shooter site are all marked 11-43. I am still waiting to see one for myself!

The Vi Shooter website has been removed with the passing of the original owner. Fortunately, the website was archived. Here's a link to the archived website.
