Lee Enfield 1898 Royal Irish Constabulary carbine

Here for your perusal is my Lee-Enfield .303 RIC 1898 carbine serial number 6648 with bayonet; RIC inventory number 4303 with acceptance date 6-04. Bore/rifling rates 8/10 so it should be quite accurate; can't wait to take it to the shooting range!

Nice, nice little piece. Always like those early carbines.

Suitable ammo will be 215gr MkVI or earlier?

It's noticeable how much heavier and denser that pre-WWI walnut was; old(er) growth presumably?

Had the butt from a Mk.I in my hand the other day (long buttplate tang) and it was strikingly heavy. Speaking of which it would have made a good club.

Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...
